Hi! I’m Laurel Maerz, LMFT
Laurel believes every person has a story worthy of being told and that each person is the expert in their story. Her approach to therapy is authentic, collaborative, and client centered. Laurel understands starting therapy can be an intimidating step, so her first priority is to create a strong therapeutic relationship where each client feels safe, supported, and comfortable.
Laurel is a licensed marriage and family therapist with experience providing school-based therapy across all educational levels, from elementary through college, and in community mental health serving individuals, couples, and families. Wherever you're starting from, she meets you there.
Laurel works with clients navigating a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, unhealthy coping skills, stress related to academics and life changes, and family and relationship challenges. She is passionate about working with adolescents, college students, adults, pre-marital couples, and families. Laurel draws on solution-focused therapy, family systems theory, and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). She also believes healing and growth can happen not just through talk therapy but also through play therapy and expressive arts. Depending on what feels right to the client, sessions can be flexible and might include painting, crafting, music, journaling, or games.
Laurel earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Master of Marriage and Family Therapy with a concentration in play therapy from Lipscomb University in Nashville. She's licensed in Tennessee and offers telehealth sessions to clients in Florida.
